Q: What's the opposite of fluffy?

A: This.

300 words, set between Seasons 8 and 9.  J/D established relationship.

Many thanks to [info]melayneseahawk  and [info]tesserae  for help and reassurance.  :-)

Q&A

Jack scrubs an agitated hand through his hair. “What exactly do you want?”

It isn’t the first time he’s asked that question. The first time, the answer was, “You,” and a thrill skittered down Jack’s spine at the heat in Daniel’s eyes.

After Daniel descended the answer was, “Us,” and Jack knew he meant more to Daniel than he’d realized. Daniel wanted to recapture what they’d been to each other. Jack was something more than an object or an outlet or a project. Maybe one day he’d learn exactly what he was to Daniel. Maybe Daniel would even tell him.

Maybe pigs will fly.

Now, standing in Jack’s kitchen, Daniel’s answer is, “I want you to take the Washington job.”

Daniel never interferes in Jack’s career. Jack doesn’t need his permission to accept a promotion.

This is Daniel sending him away.

“So, it’s over?”

Daniel steps in close, eyes glittering. He slides his hand around Jack’s throat and applies mild pressure. “It’s not over unless I say it’s over.”

Jack feels arousal swirl, low in his belly. He takes in a breath through his nose and smells Daniel’s aftershave, the one Jack gave him last birthday. He shudders and begins to harden. “Okay. Just checking.” He licks his lips.  Waits.

Daniel’s hand tightens. “It’s never going to be over, Jack. Just so you know.” He releases his grip.  His hand moves to Jack’s shoulder, fingers tapping.

Jack hurries to reply, letting all his relief show in his face and eyes. “That’s good to know.”  And if Daniel wants to read love into that….

“I’d keep you here if we didn’t need you there.” Daniel pulls him in tight, speaks gruffly into his ear. “I’ll miss you.”

“Likewise,” Jack gasps, as his hips begin to grind out his impossible, uncontrollable need.

*Yeeeeessssssssss*!

Reader's Tip: Do not click on this while 'listening' to your teenager rattle on about, well, about anything teenagers tend to rattle on about.

Just don't.

Did I distract you from motherhood? *g*

I love this to bits but I'd have to say that this is my favorite line: “I’d keep you here if we didn’t need you there.”

Just because it feels as if no matter what Jack and Daniel are to each other, and that's obvious a great deal, SG-1 is a greater part of them because it encompasses both of them, their past.
(i really hopes that makes sense)
They take their jobs seriously. That's what brought them together, after all, and gives the rest of their lives (aside from each other) purpose.

So glad you liked this, and especially that line. :-)
YES. This is the ONLY REASON that Jack actually let them send him to the Pentagon.

Oh my my my.

“It’s not over unless I say it’s over.”

That's just perfect. B/c while they're equal partners in their relationship, Jack's the one that's worried the most about appearances and he doesn't even want to give the appearance, even to himself and Daniel, that he's running roughshod over Daniel at all. And Daniel, while not wanting to hurt Jack or Lord over him, has no such hesitance (for lack of a better word).

mmhmm. like I said. perfect.
That's a good take on it. Daniel has no reason to hold back if he really wants to take charge, and especially if Jack approves.

So glad you enjoyed it, and that it answered the question of why Jack would ever leave. :-)
Very, very well done!!
Ah, thank you kindly! Just a few lines of dialogue that wouldn't get out of my head until I wrote them down and filled in the blanks. :-)
Not soft. Not fluffy. But quite interesting. Glad you posted.
Undercurrents underneath the undercurrents, I think. I'm glad I gave in to the voices in my head. *g*
Great piece, and I love the change you made on it - makes it even darker somehow... *g*
Daniel's an impatient guy. Thank you for underlining that!

(If I had a few more words to play with, Daniel's hands could have been on Jack's hips.... *eg*)

Yes, ma'am. Jack O'Neill, out of control.

Guh.
This is pretty astonishingly hot for being so compressed, and it works so well for me as a fix-it!
Thank you on both counts! :-)
I like how you set this up in the normalcy of the kitchen and let us experience this through Jack. What sticks in my mind is Jack registering Daniel's aftershave. Refreshing to read a different kind of interaction between Jack and Daniel.
I'm very glad it worked for you. It was half-written in my head, but the strange nature of their relationship didn't show itself until I started typing. The aftershave, and Jack's reaction to it, came pretty much out of nowhere. :-)

Tell, tell!

Talk to Daniel, kiddo. He hasn't told me any secrets. *pouts*

Glad you enjoyed!
*sighs happily*....

My fandom is all good....

Thank you hon...it's brilliant!!

Deeds xx
You are very welcome! *G*
What a rollercoaster of feelings for Jack! I think he must be devasted the moment he fears that this is the end to their relationship. What a relief Daniel's next words must be for him.
And then, at the end, Daniel's cryptic way to say that he loves him - and Jack's immediate reaction of his body to this.
Perfect! I love every line of it.
So much unspoken, hinted at, barely concealed....

Lovely fb, thank you! :-)
Ohh, fantastic. Lovely, lovely rich D/s there! Beautiful work.

(Also howled at the Tejas thread.)
Not my usual puppies-and-rainbows D/s. It scared me a little! I was afraid it would come across as something ugly, rather than just fucked-up. *whew*

(*giggles*)
oh yeah =)
Whee! :-)
Great take on their situation at that time in the series -- a unique and fascinating and chilling take on why Jack took that job! -- and wonderful execution. Owwcch + mmmmm.
Chilling is a good word for it! A little creepy and messed-up, and not what I would wish for them.

And neither of them are really talking to me, any more than they do to each other, so I'm left wondering which way Jack was leaning before Daniel stated his wishes. Hmm.

Very glad you liked it!
Sweet! Liked this one lots
Thanks very much! :-)
Oh. You kill me with your words. Especially these: "I’d keep you here if we didn’t need you there.”
Nice work. :-)
Daniel's possessive, but he does have his priorities straight. *g*

Thank you!
Would I be wrong in thinking this is 'Absolute Power' Daniel?

It's definitely a close cousin! We've seen who Daniel can be under the right circumstances, and this Daniel is just as arrogant and controlling. But he's not corrupt, and he still has a heart.

And Jack has a place in it.
nice!!
nice!!
A little on the warped side, but nice in so many ways. ;-)
